Trong phim Keanu Reeves đóng vai Nelson và Charlize Theron đóng vai Sara. 2 người tình cờ làm quen với nhau trong lớp học lái xe ô tô. Vì gợi ý sai của Nelson mà Sara bị hỏng thi...Sau đó họ kết bạn,rồi tình yêu nảy nở,và Nelson ngỏ lời cầu hôn với Sara. Sara bị bệnh máu trắng,,thời gian sống sót còn lại chỉ 1 tháng, đó là tháng Mười Một.Cô giấu không cho Nelson biết.
Do tình cờ Nelson phát hiện ra tủ thuốc của Sara,,anh cho rằng Sara đã không trung thực với mình. Sara không muốn Nelson chứng kiến cái chết bi thảm của mình. Sara đề nghị chia tay và Nelson chấp nhận ra đi.
Nhân dịp ngày lễ Thanks Giving Nelson đến tặng quà cho Sara để nhắc cô nhớ lại thời gian sống hạnh phúc của 2 người. Hôm sau Sara bắt buộc phải chia tay với Nelson để về gặp gia đình lần cuối cùng. Họ chia tay trong đau đớn và nuối tiếc....
